NewsTom Jones covers Arctic MonkeysTom Jones covered Arctic Monkeys today (July 1) at the Concert For Diana. The Welsh crooner did a version of 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor' at London's Wembley Stadium. Before he performed the radically altered version of the track he said: "Now we're going to do something a little different. Something new." The commemorative gig saw Kanye West perform his new song the Daft Punk sampling 'Stronger' and promise the crowd he would: "rip this stage in half." His performance which saw him backed by an all female string section, a DJ and dancers all dressed in red, saw him race through a selection of songs including 'Jesus Walks', 'Gold Digger' and 'Touch The Sky'. Earlier Lily Allen performed her hits 'LDN' and 'Smile' in a distinctive blue dress against an animated background. Pharrell Williams also performed a selection of hits including the NERD track 'She Wants To Move' and the Snoop Dogg track 'Drop It Like It's Hot'. He told the audience: "Despite all the crazy things that have happened over the world I want the people to stand up for peace." The Rakes, Pigeon Detectives perform debut In The City of New York The Rakes and The Pigeon Detectives performed two rousing sold-out sets at New York's Knitting Factory last night (June 13). The gig, part of the debut In The City of New York music conference was originally scheduled to take place at the Nokia Theatre in Times Square with the Happy Mondays as headliners. However, due to visa issues, the Happy Mondays were forced to cancel the appearance, forcing its move to the smaller downtown venue. Opening with 'You Know I Love You', The Pigeon Detectives tore through their very first New York show with tracks including 'I Found Out', 'Stop Or Go' and 'Take Her Back'. Taking to the stage at around 12.45am, The Rakes managed to hold on to the late-night crowd and buoy them up with such tracks as 'Trouble', 'We Are All Animals' and 'When Tom Cruz Cries'. In The City of New York continues tonight with Biffy Clyro, Enter Shikari and Blood Red Shoes playing Highline Ballroom. |
